Plant With Purpose

At The Plant Parlor, every plant has a purpose.

What began as a love for nature, growing, and working with the soil has become something much deeper — a mission of hope, perseverance, service, and community impact.

The Plant Parlor was founded by Donovan Simons, a man of faith, creativity, resilience, and service. Donovan has spent much of his life involved in ministry, music, outreach, entrepreneurship, and community-centered work. Through his nonprofit ministry, Simply H.I.S. Ministries, he has served in areas such as prison ministry, nursing home ministry, homeless outreach, men’s ministry, youth encouragement, health and wellness, and spiritual development.

The Plant Parlor is one more extension of that same heart for service.

The Founder’s Story

In 2016, Donovan was diagnosed with an aggressive form of IBM — Inclusion Body Myositis, a progressive muscle disease that affects strength, mobility, balance, and everyday movement.

Doctors told him that he would likely be wheelchair bound by 2019.

But Donovan’s journey did not stop there.

Through faith, prayer, diet, lifestyle changes, and determination, Donovan has continued to function beyond what was expected. Although he does use a motorized wheelchair at home when needed, he remains active, creative, and committed to doing what he can while he can.

Still, IBM continues to make mobility more difficult. Standing, walking, traveling, and working for extended periods have become increasingly challenging. Simple tasks now require more planning, more energy, and more support.

Yet through it all, Donovan continues to serve.

Why The Plant Parlor Was Started

Donovan has always loved the outdoors, nature, growing things, working hard, and finding ways to provide through meaningful labor. As his physical limitations increased, he began looking for a way to continue being productive, creative, and community-minded from home.

That vision helped give birth to The Plant Parlor.

The Plant Parlor was started not only as a home-based plant business, but also as a purpose-driven project to help raise funds toward the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van.

This van would allow Donovan to continue participating in humanitarian service, ministry outreach, community work, and local events with greater safety, independence, and mobility.

Every plant sold helps move that mission forward.

A portion of sales from The Plant Parlor will also be donated to Simply H.I.S. Ministries, a faith-based outreach ministry committed to serving others through compassion, encouragement, and practical support.

Simply H.I.S. Ministries focuses on serving those who are often overlooked, forgotten, or in need of hope, including individuals in prison, nursing homes, homeless communities, families, youth, and those seeking spiritual encouragement.
